As an earnest young leading man on British television in the mid-1990s, Andrew Lincoln rose to popularity as an aimless legal school grad on the hit "This Life" (BBC2, 1996-97), and played variants on that role throughout the next decade until hitting his stride in 2010 as an American deputy battling zombies on "The Walking Dead" (AMC, 2010- ). Lincoln's heroes were typically their own worst enemy - fear and doubt kept his leads in the comedy "Teachers" (Channel 4, 2001-04) and the paranormal drama "Afterlife" (ITV, 2005-06), as well as the romantic film "Love Actually" (2003), from achieving happiness until pushed to act. He slowly moved out of this typecasting around 2009, when turns as astronaut Michael Collins in "Moon Shot" (ITV, 2009) preceded his strong and silent lawman on "The Walking Dead." The hit zombie series indicated that Lincoln's career was finally on the rise.
